Milking the Cow

If cheese and wine are the food of the gods, Milk the Cow is Mount Olympus. St. Kilda’s licensed fromagerie, Milk the Cow has risen to the attention of Melburnians with its four-metre-long cheese cabinet, stacked high with golden wheels of cheese, and superbly matched beverages from whiskey to sake.

But if St Kilda is out of reach, the team at Allium Food and Wine has joined forces with Milk the Cow to bring the sacred practice of cheese tasting to Malvern on the third Wednesday of every month.

Allium (nee Livingroom) will select four beverages – be that wine, craft beer or whiskey – as a challenge for Milk the Cow’s cheesemonger, Laura Lown.  Lown will then recount the stories behind each choice as she guides the guests through her matches in Allium’s intimate and homey setting – a neighbourhood local with a finely tuned, modern menu.

The layout echoes Milk the Cow’s ‘Perfect Match Mondays’, but is scheduled as a battle on the mid-week blues.  Towards the end of the night, the beverages and cheeses will also be available for guests to take home, perhaps rehearse a story or two to their friends, as the delicacies will be on sale at Allium (and at Milk the Cow for attendees) for cellar door prices. With tickets only $39, it’s a wonder any cheese lover could resist.
