Storm in a Teacup

Storm in a Teacup is not just a cool name for a signature wrestling move, it’s a new tea bar where that’s set up shop where Trippy Tacos used to be on Smith Street. Opening this Saturday, the new temple of tea is looking to bring a new awareness of the leafy drop to Melbourne.

Owner Hannah Dupree says tea is as complex and varied as wine, but has the added bonus of being able to be enjoyed any time of day. She wants Storm in a Teacup to be a place where people can learn about and appreciate tea the same way we do with good coffee (though she doesn’t mind if you want yours ordered white with one).

There are 45 blends available to sample from around the globe: oolongs, green and and black teas that have been predominantly sourced directly from producers.

Teas can also be bought to take home and Hannah has a display cabinet with all sorts of tea paraphernalia for sale (kind of like a cuter version of coffee geek gear).

Hannah sees her new place as an ‘in-between’ venue, the place people come for afternoon tea, before dinner or going out. “We don’t want to fill people up or get them drunk, we want them to relax.”

Boozehounds can relax knowing they also serve liquor, and foodies stop sweating because there’s nibblies like home made cakes, plus cheese and meat plates on offer (sadly, no Iced Vovos at this stage).
