Miss Ping’s Turns Four!

It’s their birthday and they’ll do what they want to, and what better way to celebrate than throwing a banquet showcasing their new summer menu. Milk Bar Mag were lucky enough to score an invite.

Miss Ping’s retro pop, island vibe is always a delight to step into. The night kicked off with drinks and a couple of appetisers. The cocktails on offer were Cha Thai (Thai milk tea based), Miss Ping’s Spritz (pineapple and coriander), the Pink Sunset mocktail (pineapple and lime juice) which, as a non-drinker, was highly appreciate. This was fantastic, but let’s be honest, we’re all here for the main event.

Entrees were salmon sashimi served on a bed of Som Tam salad drizzled with a tangy dressing – a jar of which was our take-home gift – and scallops in a bath of seafood dressing, sprinkled with crispy shallots. A great start to the night. Flavours were vibrant and ingredients were fresh. The mains were a smorgasbord: noodles with chicken meatballs, calamari, fish and pork belly in a hot and sour broth; pineapple fried rice with seafood; and Chinese broccoli with pork belly. First the noodles – admittedly, sour soups are not my thing and while this didn’t change my mind, the individual elements were delicious, especially the pork belly – this time tossed in chilli, garlic and oyster sauce. Tender, crispy and flavour-filled; I was so stuffed by this point, but I damn made sure I could eat all of this. The pineapple fried rice was also fragrant, tasty and served in an actual pineapple. Even my pineapple-averse guest went for seconds.

Then it was time for our dessert stomachs to step up. First, golden doughnuts served with pandan coconut jam – one of my favourite flavours. Yummy, light, fried deliciousness. Second, black sticky rice with coconut ice cream, served in an actual coconut. I’ve decided my new favourite thing is fruit as bowls. Nothing bad ever seems to come in them. This is not something I would normally have ordered, but it ended up being right up there with the pork belly. The sticky rice was delightful and perfectly complemented by the coconut ice cream, which wasn’t too coconut-y. We smashed through both dishes.

Love Thai? Do yourself a favour and enjoy a summer sesh at Miss Ping’s, you won’t regret it. Happy birthday Miss Ping’s!
