Some people have children. Others, have dogs. There are no shortage of kiddie stores that offer up parents the chance to dress up their mini-mes in the latest styles or fill their lives with the trendiest toys. The same could not be said for our fur children, until now.

Queensland entrepreneur Alex Dreise is filling this niche and giving Aussie hounds a taste of the high life with her new online destination for international dog designs, Topdog Boutique. ‘My two favourite things in this world are dogs and design, but I ran into issues trying to purchase products for my dog Romeo from exotic locations. I’d been dreaming about launching a site for discerning owners who are aesthetically and sustainably minded, and in March I finally took the leap,’ said Dreise.

The result is a carefully curated edit of the most drool-worthy canine products from around the globe as well as our own backyard. Brands include the San Fran’s cult label Foggy Dog, Brooklyn-based btw Ceramics, German wunderkind MiaCara, the sleek Scandi-meets-Cali designs of Max-Bone, London’s Fetch & Follow, and Labbvenn – a brand direct from the Sudetes Mountains in south-west Poland.

Every product goes through rigorous examination to meet Dreise’s strict criteria of exceptional quality, sustainable materials and practices, and thoughtful design. ‘Not only do pieces have to look amazing, they also need to be functional, made of high-quality materials, and use sustainable practices. I look for the story behind the products, and into the identity of the brands that create them,’ said Dreise. The final test lies with Romeo – nothing goes ahead without the top dog’s approval.

Topdog Boutique’s range offers something for puppers from all walks of life. And even better, 5% of sales each year are donated to a chosen animal charity. This year, proceeds will be donated to the RSPCA to help furry friends in need.
