Vincent’s Marketplace

Vincent’s Marketplace adds a lot of character and charm to the already bustling Brunswick Street shopfront. Opening its doors in August 2019, Vincent’s Marketplace is a vegan grocer and your soon-to-be favourite coffee jaunt, all wrapped up in one plant-based bow. Milk Bar battled the wild weather on a Saturday morning to check it all out.

Vincent has a longstanding history in the scene. Considered the ‘godfather of vegetarian and plant-based diets in Melbourne’, Vincent’s legacy stretches way back to 1996, when it opened its original superstore, Vincent Vegetarian Food. In just over two decades, the demand for vegetarian, vegan or plant-based foods has grown exponentially, largely due to the fact that people are seeking more ethical and more environmentally friendly sources of produce.

Fast forward to present day; we were immediately taken with the new store. The two-tone walls of Brunswick green tiles and whitewash brick give the space room to breathe. Pairing this with retro lighting fixtures and light timber and furniture finishes only adds to the sleek yet relaxed vibe. Window seats are the perfect place to order a coffee – St Ali’s of course – and munch on a delicious vegan pastry from Weirdoughs.

The grocery range is a haven for those looking for faux meat options. Vincent’s ethos is to source seldom-found foods and bring it to the masses. There is a plethora of vegan sweet treats, including the much-loved Vego bar, which is quite possibly one of the tastiest vegan chocolate bars, and an extensive array of frozen or refrigerated faux meat options. Prawns – check. Chicken nuggets – check. Fried chicken – check. There are also Yum Cha items, like dumplings and buns, or, spring rolls.

Vincent’s Marketplace is the superstore that seamlessly integrates into the inner-north vibe, so duck in the next time you’re in the area.
