Arriving for brunch on a crisp autumn morning, it was automatically easy to see why Flovie, Melbourne’s newest destination café and florist, has over 6000 followers on Instagram. Nestled in tree-lined Carlton,

Nestled in tree-lined Carlton, the café/florist space is designed with love, with little surprises and touches making the whole experience delightful from entry to exit. From the vintage piano in the centre of the room, to the sparkling water on tap poured into pearl-sheen glasses, to the artfully crafted floral arrangements bursting lusciously from every surface, Flovie does everything with exquisite individuality and attention to detail.

Choosing from the menu is a difficult task, with each meal more distinct, and more Instagrammable than the last. For savoury lovers, the Chorizo Egg Scramble – a signature Flovie dish of chorizo, aioli yoghurt, chipotle raisin relish, coriander and parmesan on sourdough – is what flavour harmony is all about. The salty chorizo and the sharp parmesan laced throughout the eggs was perfectly complimented by the sweetness of the relish and the fresh tang of the artfully smeared yoghurt. Mouth watering to say the least! The Flovie Breakfast features all the regular stars you want in a big breakfast, like eggs, sautéed button mushrooms and roast tomatoes, but surprising uniqueness came with the meal too, through the addition of pickled red cabbage, basil pesto and earthy beetroot hummus. With our stomachs at full capacity we couldn’t try Flovie’s other signature breakfast, the Cha Siu Pulled Pork & Eggs Benedict served with mandarin hollandaise, pan fried mantou (chinese buns), fresh cucumber, pickled and fried shallots, but it’s been dubbed a favourite.

For sweets fans, you’ll be spoilt for choice. The signature Flovie Black Forest Hotcakes with cherry compote, chocolate crème anglaise, cherry chocolate ganache, mascarpone Chantilly and chocolate soil is a feast for the eyes and the mouth. Beautifully presented and flourished with a rose, you won’t want to destroy such a visual treat, but once you start you won’t be able to stop. Pure decadence on a plate. Fittingly, a range of floral-themed teas and mocktails feature on the drinks menu. Aside from being just ridiculously pretty to look at, the Rose Tea Latte with roasted pistachio and coconut milk is sweet, perfumed and warming, as was the Butterfly Pea Latte with vanilla, soy milk and sea salt.

Flovie is a one of a kind dining experience and a charming addition to Melbourne’s café culture, you won’t want to miss out on this one.
