State of Grace

‘For every cup and plateful, may we be truly grateful’ for the rebirth of State of Grace!

State of Grace, how sweet the sound! What was once the majestic Melbourne Steamship Co. building is now resurrected as Melbourne’s hotspot to wine, dine and have a good time. The antiques and extravagant décor are juxtaposed with a contemporary setting. The venue has two dining rooms. The ground floor dining room is adorned with eye-watering chandeliers and huge bi-fold windows – the perfect place to enjoy a fine glass of wine while you look out to the hustle and bustle of inner-city Melbourne. A stairway to heaven leads to the mezzanine dining area filled with vintage knick-knacks and an atmosphere of 1930s charm.

Sensory delights on offer include some of the finest European-inspired menu items by Chef Alison Hartmire. Start with some grazing of warm cob loaf with cultured butter, chicken liver pate, port orange curd and brioche, ease into a serving of fresh ora king salmon, fermented beetroot, goats cheese and horseradish, then work your way to the Aylesbury duck breast, crispy duck leg, rhubarb and freekah. To truly achieve the State of Grace experience, you mustn’t leave without tasting the refreshing Pina Colada dessert consisting of a young coconut parfait brûlée plantation rum with compressed pineapple.

But wait, there’s more! If you’re feeling a little naughty you should not pass the opportunity to sneak past the library, find the secret door and descend down the staircase into the speakeasy cellar bar, Fall from Grace.  Your fun has just begun when you step inside this grandiose manor from another era. Live a little with ‘Saving Grace’ – the signature twist on a Melbourne classic – the espresso martini with vodka, espresso and salted caramel. Of course, on the other hand, ‘Diamonds & Pearls’ certainly are a girl’s best friend, especially when it contains vodka, raspberry-infused Lillet Rose, lemon, mint, Prosecco 18. This smooth, sexy number is perfectly bright and refreshing and will send your tastebuds into a frenzy.

She’s beauty and she’s great, it’s the new and fresh, State of Grace! In all her glory, giving Gatsby a good run for his money, lavishly, delightfully and devilishly pleasure fuelled, one must give into temptation and accept the invitation. In the words of Fergie: a little party never killed nobody! State of Grace is not just a mindset, it’s a lifestyle.
