The St Kilda Film Festival wraps up this weekend so don’t miss your chance to check out some of the most impressive local and international short films. The spectacular program celebrates the innovation of short film and features anything from traditional film, music videos, and even virtual reality. Australia’s largest and longest-running short film festival turns thirty-four this year and Milk Bar Mag has hand-picked the films you must see.

Australia’s Top 100

The Top 100 is short film competition that unveils how diverse and talented the minds behind the Australian filmmaking industry are. Today’s highlights include Patty Lovestick, a story about an insecure university student who attempts to move out of the friend-zone with a chick, with disastrous results. The other standout is Age, Height, Education, where the People’s Square in Shanghai serves as a backdrop from parents brokering dates for their children, discussing everything from skin tone to hometown — real-life Tinder never looked so savage!

Tokyo Short Shorts

In a festival first, Japanese films straight from the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia are presented in a special Tokyo Short Shorts screening. Let’s Go Home is a drama follows the story of a lead rapper of a hip hop group who ditches his group to return to his home town and propose to his girlfriend Mai. Sociopaths is an especially clever mystery piece where a young girl encounters an android on the street and decides to give it a ‘message’
