St. Kilda Film Festival is a massive goodie bag for film enthusiasts. Showcasing a vast array of local and international shorts, forums, youth programs, guest speakers and music videos, there’s something for everyone.

This year’s festival will feature Australia’s Top 100 Shorts, exhibiting short films by some of the nation’s most promising directors. The Shorts section kicks off on Wednesday 25th May and covers all genres: dramas about father-daughter relationships, documentaries about paramedics and comedies about call centre jobs.

A cult favourite of the festival is always SoundKilda Music Video Competition. Screening at The Astor Theatre on Thursday 26th May, it will feature stylishly crafted music videos for artists such as Dan Sultan, Clare Bowdich, Graveyard Train and Birds of Tokyo. The event will be hosted by comedian Alan Brough with the audience deciding the ultimate winner.

The festival also offers a selection of German, Irish, and Dutch shorts, and will include guest appearances by Palestinian director Gazi Abu Baker, Cork Film Festival Director Mick Hannigan and Christophe Schultz from the Berlin Short Film Festival.

For music fans, aspiring directors and humble film buffs, St. Kilda Film Festival is an event you won’t want to miss.
