Red Noodle Blue

Time travel and alternate realities never looked as absurd and waywardly hilarious than in the hands of comedians Jacob Sacher and Jack McGorlick in their new show Red Noodle Blue. Impressing audiences at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the talented pair efficaciously play to their strengths in their hit 60-minute show.
A mix of sketch comedy, and at times, improv, Red Noodle Blue’s premise is the search for Paul Noodle (a pool noodle you can buy in bulk at the local Kmart) who has checked-out due to a freak time-travel incident. Zigzagging through various moments of time – from the Renaissance to 1960s Italy, and then Brunswick in 2015 – have dire consequences on the present-day.
Some of the standout moments include any scene where the two played rival comedians, their interaction with Triple J’s Sandro Falce, or the ultimate rescue effort. In particular, the commitment of embracing the creep factor with Lars and his sidekick (two predatory Brunswick comedians who failed at their craft) will have you chuckling for long after the show ends. The fact they kept a straight face during that particular sketch and in their following appearances deserves a standing ovation.
For those fortunate to have seen Red Noodle Blue, you would agree that the show aptly weaves themes of science-fiction and comedy. It was one of the funniest shows I’ve seen in a long time and we’re expecting big things for these guys.
