Did you sink your teeth into a juicy snag over the weekend? Perchance was it at Prahran Market’s inaugural Sizzlefest. On Sunday, 3 February, the market’s traders grilled up a BBQ storm in Market Square. Don’t fear: there are plenty of options for everyone – carnivores, vegetarians, pescatarians and everything in between – so lets take a look!

Novice BBQers learnt how to prepare delicious food on the barbeque at demonstrations by the best in the business. Chef Bente Grysbaek specialises in cooking “Off the Grid” without power, in harmony with nature, and with minimal waste, harnessing the deep personal connection that lies in food cooked over fire. He wowed crowds with demonstrations of how he cooks over an open fire, using the fire pit situation in Market Square. Meanwhile, The Essential Ingredient demonstrated grilling on Salt Bricks in front of their store and Prahran Seafoods taught eager learners how to prepare and grill tricky seafood options at home.

The annual Sausage Tasting Competition took place where a series of butchers and poulterers of Bracher Arcade vied for the coveted prize, serving up their best to be judged by the public.

If you weren’t at the beach then you must have been at Sizzlefest because it is the quintessential summer event.
