Good Beer Week 2017

In what is one of the best weeks in the calendar, the Good Beer Week has rolled its way into town promising to be the country’s biggest celebration of craft beer. Do you consider yourself a bit of a beer aficionado who discerns the ales of the world from XPA? Then this is the festival for you — and for any beer noob or general lover of a good frothy — with over 300 events metaphorically soaked, battered, or inspired by beer. Milk Bar Mag attended the launch at Beer DeLuxe last Friday and is excited to give you a run down of the top events you shouldn’t miss.

Where to eat? Collingwood big hitter Le Bon Ton hits a home run with their Once in a Blue Moon feast on Thursday, 18 May, where the executive chef will prepare a series of memorable and delicious dishes that complement the iconic Blue Moon beers. The Blue Moon Belgian White, in particular, is a crowd favourite, and is dressed with orange garnish, to heighten the citrus aroma from the Valencia orange peel used to brew the beer.

Where to drink? Over the nine-day festival, the St Hotel’s 16 taps are being taken over with the very best of old world beers from nine of Australia’s best breweries. Perfect for that one after-work drink, or a solid Sunday session, head down to St Kilda’s favourite watering hole and get amongst all the fun.

Where to play? You can’t go past Melbourne’s first-ever Holes ’n’ Hops to be held at the beautiful Albert Park Golf Course! Held on Friday, 19 May, teams of four will be greeted by a Modus Operandi beer at each hole, while the major prize of the day is a 50 litre keg of Modus beer.

Now in its seventh year, the Good Beer Week is very good and is sure to have something for everyone.
