Audi German Film Festival 2015

The Germans are an innovative bunch. From creating some of the biggest brands in cars like Audi (“coincidentally” the people sponsoring this festival…) to great engineering, so it only makes sense they make innovative films too. So enter the Audi German Film Festival, once again back in Melbourne this May and ready to wow both Melburnian and Australian audiences alike.
Thrillers seem to be popular this year with such films as Who Am I – No System Is Safe, a Fight Club-esque hacker thriller; Bright Night, a tense mystery about the consequences of past mistakes and past loves; crime drama The Kings Surrender, and many more. There are also riveting dramas like Stations Of The Cross, where a young girl is torn between her religious beliefs and the modern world; coming of age drama About A Girl; and Agnieszka, where a young woman is desperately trying to escape her sinister past and gets involved in Munich’s underbelly.
Perhaps it’s somewhat unavoidable to think of Nazis when one thinks of Germany, and The Aryans tackles the subject of white supremacy head on. But those dark subjects are perfectly balanced with kids movies such as both Ruby Red and its sequel Sapphire Blue, about a teenage girl with the ability to travel through time at will; and movies popular in Germany like the comedies A Hitman’s Solitude Before The Shot and Suck Me Shakespeer.
So if the quirkiness of German life interests you, check these top flicks out.
