Rue & Co

The posh-end of Collins St has always been known best for two things: firstly its retailers — like Chanel, and Louis Vuitton, and secondly, the grave business people who shuffle along the streets en route to their offices, resenting life.

Fortunately, these poor souls don’t need to escape to a Northern suburb after work to indulge in the odd graffiti-splashed wall or food-truck. Instead, the street art and souvlaki has come to them.

For the next few months, the Nauru House courtyard at 80 Collins St will become Rue & Co — an outdoor container canteen occupied by pop-up versions of George Calombaris’ Jimmy Grants, Salvatore Malatesta’s St Ali, and Chin Chin’s, Chris Lucas’ new Korean BBQ restaurant, Kong.

The temporary takeaway hub will be serving everything from coffee to kim chi stew and sliders, providing a nice break from the typical Subway or sushi back at your desk. For added cultural kick, there’s local street artist, RONE‘s latest unmissable (literally, it’s impossible to miss) artwork — at 35 metres tall by 24 metres wide — adorns the wall above, keeping a watchful eye over the space below.

There’s no word on exactly how long they’ll be in residence, but while QIC Global Real Estate make bigger plans for the previously dead space, these mini restaurants will stay to serve the suits, locals and passers-by.

Open from 7am-evening (breakfast, lunch and dinner), 7 days a week

Somewhere Else video sings of summer

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
