Festival of Live Art

Live art happens in the moment, in real time, between artist and audience.

FOLA encompasses the diverse forms of performance, installation, participatory events, talks, digital media and more. Featured are 40+ events across Footscray, North Melbourne, the CBD and St Kilda.

Not sure where to start? Here are some suggestions:

Art & The Body
One of Australia’s most famous (or infamous) performance artists is Melbourne-based provocateur, Stelarc, perhaps best known for surgically grafting a cell-cultivated ear to his left arm. In a free talk at the Wheeler Centre, Stelarc along with other local artists will discuss the human body as an instrument for live art, and the extremes to which some artists have pushed their own bodies.
(March 18.)

Fright
Not for the faint-hearted, Fright is an immersive exploration of fear that takes place in seven interconnecting vaults that were once Victorian shop-fronts. As part of Theatre Works’ ENCOUNTER(S) programFright foregrounds the participants’ own experiences, through given tasks, conversations with the artists, and immersion in the purpose-built site.
(March 24-30.)

The 24-Hour Experience
Perhaps the most all-encompassing, long-haul event on the program, The 24-Hour Experience unfolds in real time with 24 distinct live works presented in a new Melbourne location on the hour. The 24 pieces bring together a group of Victoria’s leading artists, including conceiving artist Gorkem Acaroglu, and writer, Raimondo Cortese.
(March 29-30 in Melbourne CBD.)

Festival of Live Art takes place from March 14-30. For the full program or tickets visit: fola.com.au
