Dandenong Market’s World Food Fare

When people think Melbourne markets it’s generally the Queen Vic, Prahran and South Melbourne. But one of the oldest and most diverse markets is to be found down in Dandenong.
Now in its third year, this weekend sees Dandenong Market’s World Fare Day. Apart from being probably the cheapest event affiliated with the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, the World Fare Day gives you a chance to try a bunch of different tastes and cuisines you won’t find at your local food court.
Inspired by MFWF’s theme of Water, World Fare Day is an outdoor bazaar featuring bloody cheap street food from the Murray-Darling to Niger, the Mekong and the Ganges.
Resident market chef Russell Bald will also be hosting cooking demonstrations throughout the day, as well as teaming up with stallholders to produce regional favourites all made with fresh produce from the market.
And there’ll be music and dancing. And quite frankly anywhere that’s offering dishes from $1 these days is worth dancing about.
The Dandenong World Fare is on Sunday 2 March, 10am – 3pm.

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
