Anthony Breslin’s Trybe

For just 10 days, Fly-On-The-Wall theatre presents Anthony Breslin’s Trybe: An Opera in Paint at Chapel off Chapel in Prahran. Trybe explores the issues one faces with the process of creation; an artist struck by his own desolation delves into his own imagination where paint is the key ingredient, the weapon, the source and the struggle of love, life and death.

Anthony Breslin, whose previous works include art exhibitions, lectures, productions and publications, is the director, writer, designer and star of Trybe.

The opening moments will leave you intrigued with the slow movements of the feline-like creatures of his mind. There begins a weird and wonderful array of colour, smoke, live music, dance, mime, animation and art in motion, with the beginning formations of a painting that is shown overhead by a projector.

At times confronting and disturbing, there’s something almost cult-like about Trybe. Visual projections and a sharp clash of very loud descants keep the audience guessing. Trybe is a play for all of the senses – it will prompt you to contemplate the broader concepts of human desire, struggle and power.

Trybe is showing at Chapel off Chapel until the March 24.
