Pawn and Co

Like a scene out of Boardwalk Empire, Pawn & Co has opened its doors to the public – and thankfully there’s no Prohibition in Melbourne.

Created by the chaps from Big Dog and Channel V personalities Josh Lefers and Stephen Wools, this vintage-style watering hole offers something new to the Chapel Street precinct.

The team at Pawn & Co have established the first bar in Melbourne where everything you see is for sale. From the stool you sit on and the cocktail glass you sip from to the 1940’s taxidermy kangaroo… you like it, you can buy it.

“I once heard about a cafe in New Zealand that doubled as a furniture store and I was pretty excited, so then I started working on the concept. I was much more interested in creating a place that was a pawn store for real.

“You’ve got to love the shadiness of a pawnshop, with its old gems and incidental histories of items. You try and imagine the past owner and how it ended up there. That’s our entire venue- mysterious, with fascinating histories,” Lefer tells us.

Keeping in with the theme, the cocktail list is New Orleans style and key tipples include the Arsenic and Old Lace a combination of traditional pre-ban style Jade 1901 Absinthe, Plymouth dry gin, Noilly Prat and crème de Voilette. The team will also be serving a US-inspired menu including meatballs and sliders.

If sipping on a a Death in the Afternoon absinthe cocktail and feasting on some New Orleans sliders whilst listening to some 70’s funk sounds like your cup of tea (be careful with the China), drop in and see the team at Pawn & Co.
