Milk Bar’s guide to Melbourne Fringe

Melbourne Fringe is upon us again, my friends. 19 wondrous calendar squares full of galavanting, giggling, gasping, and depending on how much you guzzle, perchance a little gagging.

The first tip is not to drink so much that you can’t keep up with the acts. The next five tips are as follows…

FRINGE CLUB
North Melbourne Town Hall once again plays host to Fringe Club, the place for all your post-show cravings for more titillation and celebration. Head on down to the darkened warren before or after your show of choice to drain a delicious White Rabbit. The beer, not the bunny of course. C’mon folks.

GIRLS NIGHT
If you’re a girl looking to see some inspiring, powerful, and funny fellow lassies, or if you’re a guy who isn’t threatened by that list of traits in the opposite sex, why not head on to Girls Night and stock up on all your female comedians in one wonderful evening? Featuring a rotating cast, check out the program to find your favourites!

THE LAST TUESDAY SOCIETY – PIMP MY PLAY
You know when you take something beautiful and stab it and cut it and rip it apart beyond recognition, and feel really good afterwards? Who doesn’t, right? Well, that’s kinda what this play will be like. Pimp My Play is a re-working of A Streetcar Named Desire, and once the bunch of collaborators have their desirable way with it, it will be a theatrical Frankenstein. Sounds interesting.

THIS IS SIBERIAN HUSKY IN THE MISERY FACTOR
Oh satire, that misery and pain could be such a knee-slapper. This show, set in a factory manufacturing human anguish, promises to be just that. Comedy duo This is Siberian Husky explore everything from paper cuts to death – which, by the way, if you’ve suffered a paper cut lately or are still in the recovery phase, you’ll know there isn’t much in between.

ELBOW ROOM: RULE OF THREE
I’m not entirely sure what this is, but it looks interesting. Elbow Room (2011 winners of Best Performance at the Fringe) are back with a live experiment which questions the way we form experience into patterns – including those that underlie some of our strongest convictions. I smell a revelation.
