The Life of Dickens

In case you didn’t know, The British Council of Literature is undertaking a series of events across the world during 2012 to to mark the bicentenary anniversary of the birth of author Charles Dickens.

One such event will be hosted by The Wheeler Center during the Melbourne International Film Festival, where chief executive of Film London Adrian Wooton will talk on the life and legacy of Dickens.

Attendees also have the option of going to a premiere screening of First Fagan prior to the presentation. This locally produced documentary focuses on the Australian convict Ikey Solomon, who is believed to have provided the inspiration for the character of Fagan in Oliver Twist.
