Melbourne Fringe: High Pony

In Mel & Sam’s outrageously funny and high-octane show High Pony, the pair invite you to enter the collective cranium and traverse a wacky world in which Wally from Where’s Wally? isn’t seen. Under 25’s netball, babies, a thirst for suburban mums with their emblazoned pleather flip phone case and pubescent eshays are all fodder, stereotypes be damned. As part of Melbourne Fringe’s mega programme, the cabaret is performed at Trades Hall: Common Room.

Brought to you by the award-winning Mel & Sam, High Pony is provocative, clever and undoubtedly hilarious. Hot off the heels of their sold-out pussy-popping tours of No Hat No Play! The Cabaret and Shit-Wrecked, this show isn’t set in a specific time and place – it is more a sense check and scan of the world at large with a shiny and astute queer lens. The 60-minute show features catchy songs and ‘Net-f#cking-ball’, ‘Babies Are Cancelled’, and ‘Lesbians Don’t Get the Ick’ are among the most memorable and comedic.

Based in Naarm/Melbourne, Mel & Sam are a popular queer duo known for their razor-sharp, polished edge. They’re queer. They’re horny. They’re cheeky. They’re unhinged. They’re amazing and unforgettable. Their ability to belt out ballads and break out into song is superb. Sam shined in her takedown of netball where no Wing Defence, Goal Attack or Centre are safe as well as her lust for a suburban mum who utters “because I said so” more often than not. Mel went from strength to strength performing a range of characters, including a side-splitting Pterodactyl.

High Pony is performing as part of Melbourne Fringe until Sunday 22 October. Mel & Sam are back with their show Sh*t Wrecked on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 October.
