Real and raw, Cavemxn follows Mike, Tim, Chris and Oscar on their journey of self-discovery in the queer space. Showcasing four very different experiences, the friends dip in and out of each other’s lives in friendship, love, business and sex.

Spanning across five years, each person is hit with overall life – realities, decisions, loneliness. Erotic and relatable, Cavemxn feels more like a conversation with your friends than a performance. With engaging dialogue and events, this play really puts the queer experience into perspective. Complemented by moments of euphoria, it is well thought-out and charismatic. Made by the mind’s of the award-winning DIRT and Naomi, Cavemxn is directed by Bronwen Coleman and written by Angus Cameron. Its ingenious design showcases the narrative in a creative way by telling each person’s story and how they intertwine with one another along the way.

Performed by Joss McLelland, Patrick Livesey, Yuchen Wang & Harvey Zielinski, Cavemxn‘s acting is spot on. Taking the audience on a journey all across the globe, we see the four take London, New York and Australia with sex-parties, raves and couch hook-ups. With set and costume design by XaSha Chua-Higgins, we also see subtle nods to the title of the play in the stage scenery. Danni Esposito’s sound design also complements the setting and lighting by Harrie Hogan. It is evident that each behind the scenes member plays an honorary role in telling the story.

A tale that will stand the test of time but still showcases a modern experience for the LGBTQ+ community – Cavemxn is funny, sexy and clever. If you missed its run at Chapel Off Chapel – there is plenty more to see through the summer so don’t miss out!
