Cocktails in the Clouds at Melbourne Skydeck’s Bar 88

Once the tallest residential tower in the world, Melbourne Skydeck has been a landmark of the Melbourne skyline since the dawn of the millennium. Perched right on the 88th floor, in among various nervy height-related activities, is Bar 88, a dimly lit New York-esque bar with spectacular views of Melbourne CBD. Milk Bar was kindly invited to experience their new package, Cocktails in the Clouds, and it did not disappoint.

Situated in the heart – and sky – of the city, Bar 88 provides a cosy, ambient vibe with a 360-degree view of some of Melbourne’s iconic tourist attractions. With an already impressive aesthetic, the bar has recently added a new packaged deal that includes Skydeck admission for two, complimentary cocktails and cheese platters, and I was lucky enough to taste-test the experience.

Cocktails in the Clouds is the perfect deal for a romantic date night, a quiet drink with a friend or even some liquid courage before tackling Skydeck’s nerve-wracking add-ons – The Plank being a deceptively sweaty-palmed experience. The cocktails were impressive, and while the cheese platter had some room for improvement, the experience as a whole was enhanced by the relaxing atmosphere, the spectacular views, the gentle jazz and wonderful customer service. Possibly due to the number of acrophobia sufferers back down on the ground, Bar 88 is also a charming spot if crowds and rowdy bars are not your vibe.

Cocktails in the Clouds also doesn’t just limit you to what it has to offer. If the desire to carry on kicks in, patrons are then welcomed to try an array of different cocktails, spirits, wines and oyster and cheese dishes. It is a fabulous experience that lets you settle in with good drinks, good company and an incredible view of Naarm at night that you will never forget.
