Celebrating the very best of cinema from 20 countries, the Jewish International Film Festival (JIFF) explores the very topical theme of adapting to change. Perhaps this is something we can all agree upon: that there has been an immense shift in the collective consciousness in the past two years. In cinemas until Sunday 3 April, the festival programme spans crowd pleasures, tear jerkers and thought-provoking cinema.

With 55 brand-new Australian premieres of features, documentaries and television series, cinephiles are spoiled for choice this year. Among the stand-out choices are cross-cultural feature Mother Mountain – a Jewish and Indigenous Australian story, by first-time female director Celina Stang; The Narrow Bridge, centring on an Israeli father whose children were victims of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict; and Simone Veil, A Woman of the Century, a colossal biopic on the “Ruth Bader Ginsburg of France”. Simone is a Holocaust survivor, lawyer, human rights advocate and President of the European Parliament.

JIFF will also host a series of events, adding to the charming experience. The Closing Night event of the screening The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem will kick off with drinks on Sunday 3 April, at Classic Cinemas, Elsternwick. There is also live comedy, digital Q&A, and an introduction on the legacy of Saul Bellow.

To celebrate, Milk Bar is giving away two FREE double passes to JIFF. All you need do is email with the subject line ‘Jewish International Film Festival ticket giveaway’ and include your name, email and the movie you are desperate to see.

JIFF is perfect for avid movie festival-goers or foreign cinema enthusiasts. See you there!
