2019 Mini British Film Festival ticket giveaway

Despite the name, there is nothing ‘mini’ about the 2019 British Film Festival this year. In fact, the festival programme is huge. Featuring a bevy of Britain’s best – Dame Helen Mirren, Sir Ian McKellen, Russell Tovey, Vanessa Redgrave to name a few – Palace Cinema and Mini are presenting 30 films for you to gush over and fall in love with.

Our top choice is easy – Fisherman’s Friends. Think a group of sailors singing sea shanties in the open sea on the coast of Cornwall. Starring James Purefoy, Daniel Mays and Downton Abbey’s (the movie) Tuppence Middleton, Fisherman’s Friends is the uplifting and picturesque film based on a group of part-time sea shanty singers who crack the British music scene. Witty, charming and packed with heart, Fisherman’s Friends will have you downloading the Spotify playlist immediately after.

This year’s festival pays homage Dame Helen Mirren in a retrospective called ‘Mirror on Mirren’. From the royal (The Madness of King George and The Queen) to the raunchy (Calendar Girls), Mirren fans are spoiled for choice.

For millennials traipsing through the dating world, A Guide to Second Date Sex may give you a few pointers. Starring George Mackay and Alexandra Roach, the pair play Ryan and Laura. They’re perfect for each other: they love Meryl Streep (I mean, who doesn’t?!), have been burnt by former relationships, and they both are unable to confidently navigate their dating exploits. How badly could things go?

The answer to that question, or to see any of the wonderful films in the programme, is to enter Milk Bar’s British Film Festival ticket giveaway! All you need do is email ross@milkbarmag.com with the subject line ‘2019 Mini British Film Festival ticket giveaway’ and include in the body of your email your name, your postal address and the film you want to see. There are 5 FREE double passes up for grabs!

Good luck!

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
