American Essentials Film Festival ticket giveaway

Those of you with a basic understanding of science and geography will know already that the earth actually revolves around the United States of America, contrary to popular theories espoused by the mainstream media. Regardless of your relationship with the truth, the 2018 American Essentials Film Festival is coming soon to Melbs and the program will have you saying “I’ll have what she is having please waiter.” That’s a famous line from the classic American film Harry and Sally’s Big Day Out for all the Philistines out there.

The festival kicks off Thursday, 10 May in Melbourne (8/9 May in Sydney/Canberra — no one cares) at The Astor and Kino with The Boy Downstairs, a rom-com starring Zosia Mamet of Girls fame.

The line up is jam-packed with some very good-looking films, including 55 Steps – a hard-hitting drama starring Hilary Swank (where’s she been!?) and Helena Bonham Carter – as well as My Days Of Mercy, which has Ellen Page and Kate Mara as sparring lovers set against the backdrop of a death penalty case.

My personal picks for the festival are Kodachrome – a romantic dramedy starring Jason Sudekis, Ed Harris and Elizabeth Olsen, AND! (and hear me out here) a black comedy starring classic on-screen duo Nic Cage and Selma Blair, called Mom And Dad. Seriously, check out the trailer. It looks great. Or terrible. Or both.

The festival will run until May 20 and to celebrate Milk Bar Mag is giving away 5 FREE double passes because we are just that nice. All’s ya gots to do is email ross@milkbarmag.com with the subject line ‘American Essentials Film Festival ticket giveaway’ and include your name and postal address and maybe a nice little pick-me-up message for Ross too while you’re at it. Sometimes he feels that all he does is give.
