Winchester ticket giveaway

Helen Mirren and horror may not be a familiar cocktail on the shelf, but boy does it pack a lot of punch. Billed as one of the most spooky and spine-tingling horrors in recent years, Winchester was released in cinemas Thursday, 22 February. Filmed in our very own city of Melbourne, the new film stars a slew of Aussie actors including Sarah Snook, Jason Clarke, Laura Brent and funny-man Angus Sampson.

Inspired by a true story, Winchester follows firearms heiress Sarah Winchester (Mirren), who is convinced she is haunted by the souls of those killed at the hands of the Winchester repeating rifle. After the untimely deaths of her husband and child, she immerses herself in building the most gargantuan mansion to keep evil spirits at bay. Draped in a heavy black veil and widow’s weeds, Sarah oversees the non-stop construction of her compound with the intention of imprisoning hundreds of vengeful ghosts, until sceptical San Francisco psychiatrist Eric Price (Clarke) arrives to evaluate her state of mind, and determine whether or not she is insane.
