European Night Market returns this July

Budgets are tighter than ever and if, like this writer, a jaunt in Europe just isn’t on the cards, you’re in luck — Europe has arrived in Melbourne. This year, the European Night Market is bigger, better and more German than ever!

Kicking off Friday 7 July, this year’s market will not only transform Madame Brussels Lane into an enchanting European destination, it will also extend into Little Lonsdale Street for the very first time.

Step into a winter wonderland, where Bavarian beer hall magic unites music, food and frivolity. Start with a traditional pretzel from Mellow Beans or deep-fried Camembert straight from the French Alps via Frencheese. Next, hit up Bavarian Bangers for a bratwurst, That’s Amore for cheese-wheel-tossed pasta, Elena’s Paella for the Spanish staple or stop by my personal favourite, Pierogi Pierogi, for some Polish dumplings. For something sweet, the French do it best — look no further than freshly torched creme brûlée or magnifique French crepes.

You’ll be forgiven for thinking you’ve been transported to the Christmas night markets with live performances from the German Trio Band and European Band, stilt performers, dancers, and roaming German entertainers adorned in Lederhosen all setting the scene.

The European Night Market is located at Madame Brussels Lane and will be held on Friday evenings over four weeks from 5 pm until 10 pm. There’s something for everyone and this July, an escape to Europe is just the ticket.
