Melbourne is renowned for its unique offerings of art and design. People travel just to see our colourful alleyways and we host exhibitions like Triennial that make the arts accessible to everyone. This latest event is something special. Curated by the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) and delivered in collaboration with the Melbourne Art Foundation from 18–21 May, Melbourne Design Fair is Australia’s largest presentation of contemporary and twentieth century collectible design by leading Australian and international practitioners.

The centrepiece of Melbourne Design Week, the fair features the work of more than 150 designers across 60+ presentations staged by prominent commercial galleries, design agencies, organisations and studios from across the country and beyond. We’re not being snobby here.

‘Defined by the vibrancy of its host city, the annual Melbourne Design Fair demonstrates Melbourne’s commitment to the sector in what is the region’s most significant commercial platform for collectible design. Appealing to the design lover and discerning collector alike, the fair will offer access to the most rare and limited-edition collectible design on Australian shores, curated by the National Gallery of Victoria,’ says Maree Di Pasquale (Melbourne Art Foundation CEO).

Presented across 3,000 square metres at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), the fair provides visitors with the opportunity to discover new talent, explore innovative design production, and gain an insight into the latest trends in the world of collectible design. There are even opportunities to take a unique piece home in the form of furniture, lighting or contemporary jewellery.

See how the next generation of talent are making their mark and get ahead of the trends with the NGV-curated section, DISCOVERY. Making its debut in 2023, this showcase is dedicated to the promotion and sale of work by emerging designers and makers who are forever pushing boundaries with exciting creations.

Another highlight, FOCUS celebrates the work of five female designers and makers. Foregrounding their skills and conceptual prowess, the works on display shine a light on the important contributions women make to design, seeking to inspire the next generation and keep the sector a diverse space.

Don’t miss your chance to witness the marvels the most talented established and up-and-coming designers and makers are creating in the ever-evolving world of design. Tickets for the four-day event and further information are available below.
