Antiques Roadshow lovers rejoice, the Melbourne Fair is back! From 23–26 March, browse or take home a piece of history with objects from all eras including antique, art deco, mid-century modern and high-crafted vintage wares.
Trawl through a unique treasure trove of furniture, fine art, jewellery, couture fashion and more, from the country’s most respected dealers. Specialists are on hand to impart unparalleled advice and knowledge to help fairgoers on their buying journey.
Just some of the special objects available this year are a 1950s diamond necklace with matching brooch and earrings, a rare mid-century French Jielde Lamp, a Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre Vase and an Australian made 50’s sleepy hollow chair.
The fair will also host a program of talks, special events and even a catwalk across the weekend for everyone to enjoy. Jewellery historian Hayden Peters will take visitors on a fascinating deep dive into mourning jewellery and how to identify it, bringing together the history of early-modern society, politics, design and fashion. Fashion anthropologist Tom McEvoy will share his passion for historical garments and extensive knowledge of 20th-century fashion, and, more specifically, how Melbourne became the fashion capital of Australia.
Wondering what that family heirloom painting might be worth? Accredited valuer Leigh Capel of Belle Époque Fine Art will be offering free art appraisals to all attendees of the fair.
Starting from $10, tickets are on sale now at themelbournefair.com.au or can be purchased on the door. More information, including a full list of exhibitors and program of events, is available on the website. Connoisseurs of fine taste, history buffs and fashion enthusiasts cannot afford to miss this world-renowned event.
