On now: Moro Spanish Film Festival 2022

As the Melbourne chill sets in, there’s no better way to spend your time than cosying up at the cinema. Presented by Palace Cinemas, the Moro Spanish Film Festival 2022 (SFF) is serving up only the best of Spanish cinema this autumn. 

Showcasing a vast array of genres, including rom-com, horrors, thrillers, box-office hits, children’s, comedies, dramas and action, this carefully curated selection of 34 movies has something for everyone. Featuring two key programme strands, New Spanish Cinema and Cine Latino, SFF offers lovers of film a cinematic journey with every show. 

Milk Bar immersed itself in the beautiful language, culture and cinema of Spain on the Opening Night – which was also the Australian premiere – of Official Competition. This hilarious drama features stars Antonio Banderas and Penélope Cruz. Playful and clever, the eccentric cast and beautiful cinematography make this film a must on your SFF list! 

Find fan favourite Penélope Cruz in an array of films throughout the festival, including Loving Pablo, Parallel Mothers and Jamón Jamón. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Jamón Jamón was where the famous duo Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz. 

For the little ones, Disney’s Encanto is the film to see. They may have seen it in English but in Spanish, it’s even more enchanting – immerse and engage them with a new culture.
