Do you have an acute fear of spiders? Are you the main character in an intricate narrative where all spiders have conspired to come for you? If this is a trigger, you may not be alone. Comedian and journalist Angie Lavoipierre shares her wild ride with spiders in her new hit show I’ve Got 99 Problems And Here Is An Exhaustive List Of Them

Donning a spider suit on stage, Angie opens by inviting audience members to pull off the spidey legs while she prepares to race through 99 problems in 50 minutes. Fraught by the deadline, Angie enlists a handy bell to ding every time she utters an issue, a problem or a tale of woe. The deranged and scattered story begins when she moves in with her boyfriend – whose name can’t be used for legal reasons – and the cluster of spiders that appear. Angie deduced that the eight-legged creatures were trying to deliver a message: it’s time to get out.

A storyteller by trade, Angie Lavoipierre was the host of ABC’s daily news podcastThe Signal. Angie’s knack for crafting an eloquent, multi-layered story, complete with side stories and hilarious digressions, is a testament to her background. The high moments of the show include the rendition of a scene from Charlotte’s Web, the closing song, and her early days vying to become an ABC news cadet. While the show was a fun time and generated genuine laughs, you couldn’t help but wish some of the stories delved deeper.

Asked if she has any advice for arachnophobes in the audience, Angie says: “I personally guarantee there are no actual spiders in this show which means statistically, you’re more likely to meet one by not attending. It’s not advice, but it is something to think about.”

I’ve Got 99 Problems is one hell of a ride and makes you wonder what web the spiders in your story arc are weaving.

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
