O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? No, that’s not right. Perhaps it was ‘We came into the world like brother and brother, and now let’s go hand in hand, not one before another’ – that sounds more like it!  The Comedy of Errors, written by none other than William Shakespeare, has been brought to life by the cast and crew at Melbourne Shakespeare Company

Despite back-to-back lockdowns and restrictions that we would all rather forget about, Melbourne Shakespeare Company has managed to make a return bigger than ever. Not only are they renowned for selling out shows in minutes, but also for putting together productions that have you instantly engaged, and their latest show is no different.

The performance is very true to the original, with the addition of some modern-day references that allow the audience to relate and see the contemporary side to one of Shakespeare’s classics. Short and sweet renditions of classic hits like ‘I Need A Dollar’ by Aloe Blacc, and every fan girl’s favourite ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ by One Direction bring to life the performance and allow the audience to sing a long with familiar hits.

The cast put on a spectacular show, imbuing passion, wit and fun with each scene, creating a truly immersive experience. Their energy and creativity kept the audience engaged and constantly on their toes.

Performed at the beautiful St Kilda Botanical Gardens, this production allowed you to relax in the great outdoors. Melbourne Shakespeare Company’s next show, A Midsummer Night’s Dreamwill run from 26 February to 2 March 2022 at Central Park, Malvern. So, book some tickets, gather some snacks and stock up on sunscreen, and enjoy a beautiful summer night.
