Are you the type of shopper who knows which store they need to hit, what purchase to make, and will do this in the shortest amount of time possible? If this is you, then please make time for Yu Kitchen, Chadstone’s answer to authentic Chinese dining.

Located in the Luxury Precinct among stores such as Tiffany & Co and Saint Laurent, Yu Kitchen features creations from two Michelin Star chef Chen Kentaro. Fun fact: Chen is the son of world-famous Iron Chef Chen Kenichi. The result of Chen’s genius is an eclectic menu that tailors classic and traditional homemade Chinese dishes with a contemporary flair.

Milk Bar were treated to the seven-course banquet offering and were immediately made welcome by the attentive staff. To begin, fresh Tasmanian oysters adorned with a passionfruit, Moutai granita. Two things: Moutai is a distilled Chinese liquor, and, no, we didn’t get brain freeze. What followed next was a surprise favourite. It was the free-range chicken san choi bao. Bedded in crisp iceberg lettuce, the chicken and rice combo was sensational.

Things really heated up with the ginger scented pumpkin soup with morsels of spanner crab meat, and Kentaro Chen’s signature mapo tofu. Mapo tofu is a classic Sichuan dish. It is a spicy, pungent and appetising bowl of chilli bean paste, minced free range pork, spring onion. In moments of desperation, the puffed rice cake was our saving grace. The spiciness really takes a kick out of you.

The last two mains were the ginger and spring onion Hokkaido scallops paired with broccolini spears, and lastly, the pan grilled black pepper lamb cutlets, served with BBQ pork fried rice. Positioned atop a bowl of smoke, the dessert was an ornate and elegantly presented mango and chia seed pudding. Separated by a wall of meringue, it was tangy, refreshing and scrumptious.

Beyond the banquet, Yu Kitchen have a delectable a la carte and yum cha offering that is available every day. Fancy a bottle of Don Perignon, Domaine Heitz Cheavlier Montrachet Grand Cru or Château Petrus Merlot? Take a peek at their extensive beer, wine and spirits list.

Yu Kitchen is perfect for a post-shopping-spree treat, a plush dinner or a special event. The 200-seated eatery maintains its luxurious and intimate ambience with soft lighting and dark furniture. So, take the journey down a culinary experience that is centuries in the making and dine in style at Yu Kitchen!
