Your Guide to the Winter Night Market

It’s happened, Melbourne. Winter is upon us yet again. It seems like only yesterday we were lounging in the summer heat, wearing cute shorts and drinking beers in parks ‘til the sun set at 10pm. Now we’re getting home from work in the dark, reaching for the Shiraz and Googling “if I dry my socks on an oil heater will it blow up?” Although we may whinge about frosty mornings and wear exclusively black for the duration of the season (navy blue if we’re feeling colourful), we don’t let a little bit of cold weather stop us from experiencing all the culture and nightlife our amazing city has to offer.

A Melbourne winter just isn’t a Melbourne winter without a visit (or three) to the Winter Night Market. This year, every Wednesday from June 5 to August 28, the Queen Victoria Market will host over 30 food and drink stalls, more than 50 goods and wares stalls, and a whole variety of local arts and entertainment. There’ll be barbecue, dumplings, mulled wine, booksellers, artisan crafts, steaming hot noodles, and even a silent disco. For those who don’t stuff their faces with too much food and still possess the ability to have a boogie.

For an extra warming treat, each Wednesday in July will feature a Christmas-themed pop-up, an interactive winter wonderland that will pay homage to the extravagance of a northern hemisphere white Christmas. Think snow machines, baubles, eggnog and even an Ugliest Christmas Sweater competition.

Milk Bar will be heading to the sheds to test out the flavours and entertainment on offer. We hope to see you there!
