The Peninsula Picnic

Fancy taking a drive down the pristine Mornington Peninsula on Saturday, 30 March? Why, you may ask? Well, if you haven’t heard, The Peninsula Picnic returns this year and is set to be a food, wine and music gathering like no other. Milk Bar Mag is here to share with you our highlights and recommendations so you can lay back on your rug and let the good times roll.

Hot off the heels of last year’s sold-out event, The Picnic Peninsula has upped the ante in the music stakes. Their unprecedented line-up is led by Triple J’s darling, The Rubens. Bop your head and sway to fan-favourite ‘Hoops’ and personal favourites ‘My Gun’ and ‘Lay It Down’. Another beloved artist is Sarah Blasko, and you can catch her rolling through her six albums of pure genre-defining indie rock. If you’re feeling a vibe and want to get in the groove, then San Lazaro is for you. Billed as Australia’s most prolific creators and performers of original Latin music, San Lazaro will elicit the musical salvation you so deserve.

The food? Nine of the Peninsula’s best offerings have been selected so you can experience the best of the best. Start at Rare Hare at Jackalope and finish up somewhere between Alatonero (Greek cuisine), Stables Smokehouse or Tucks, owned by the award-winning Montalto team.

All the top local winemakers and labels will be in attendance. Reach out for a crisp glass from Prancing Horse, known for their unique biodynamic viticulture which caught wind in France, or a glass of Pinot Gris and Pinot Noit from Quealy’s husband-and-wife team, Kevin McCarthy and Kathleen Quealy.

Having attended the Peninsula Picnic in past years, it cannot be denied as a true celebration of local wine and food talent from the region. So, gather your mates, pack a tartan picnic rug and cruise down the Eastern freeway as you make your way down to the one-day event of the season.

Somewhere Else video sings of summer

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
