Whitney Houston was more than a musical icon, she was a legend. The seven-time Grammy® Award winner is one of the most successful female singers of all time and her fame continues to grow. Her epic song, I Will Always Love You, from 1992 classic The Bodyguard, has became one of the best-selling singles in music history. But behind the golden voice with unmatched range hid a troubled private life including a turbulent marriage to Bobby Brown, struggles with addiction, and the pressures of fame.

‘How do I want to be remembered?’ Houston muses in an interview at the height of her stardom.

Whitney: ‘Can I be me’, is the upcoming documentary to hit cinemas on Thursday, 15 June answers the question by offering a raw and uncensored look at Houston’s life. Charting her rise and tragic downfall, behind-the-scenes materials, candid interviews, and performance footage explore her life and her central dilemma: despite being recognised as one of the greatest voices of all time, she still couldn’t do what she wanted to do, either professionally and in her personal life.

Documentarian extraordinaire Nick Broomfield and music video director Rudi Dolezal team up to tell the untold story of Houston and create a portrait of a remarkable woman who and the impact her life and untimely death had on the people around her and the world of music.

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
