Mr & Mrs Anderson

Since opening its doors in December last year, Mr & Mrs Anderson has quickly made a name for itself as somewhere that prioritises fresh food, local ingredients and supporting local businesses and suppliers. Situated on the corner of Anderson Rd (from which it takes its name) and Tooronga Rd, owners James Limneos and Roulla Saisanas pride themselves on making most dishes and ingredients in-house or sourced from their farm in Gippsland as part of their sustainable paddock-to-plate philosophy which has diners reap the benefits of home grown food.

This ethos of fresh and healthy ingredients is reflected in their menu and presentation which clearly delineates each element of a dish. This is due to the work and fine eye of executive chef Lasse Povlsen — formerly of Copenhagen’s award-winning restaurant scene and previously head chef of Three Bags Full Café here in Melbourne — who ensures each dish looks as good as it tastes. Of the new April menu, highlights include tender and juicy free range pork loin wrapped in bacon and served with a spicy tomato sugo, sweet corn and white beans as well as a poke bowl with seared salmon, brown rice, macadamia, nori and pickled ginger that is perfect as a refreshing meal on those warm days.

While Mr & Mrs Anderson caters to the health conscious, those with a sweet tooth are well looked after and need look no further than the caramelised white chocolate brioche topped with raspberry coulis and sorbet. Visually impressive and accompanied by berries and white chocolate matcha truffles, the brioche is rich and almost sickly sweet were it not for the inclusion of the sorbet which delicately balances out the flavours.

Rounding out the menu is their freshly squeezed juices to start the day with along with coffee sourced from Axil Coffee, another local business the owners wish to support. Ingredients of their Green Juice changes daily, dependent on what is available and fresh, ensuring that each glass is made with only the highest quality ingredients and again reflective of their paddock to plate philosophy.

A great new addition to the Hawthorn area, Mr & Mrs Anderson is a modern, open spaced, café with a menu that caters to diners of all dispositions and a dedication to only the freshest ingredients.
