Whistleblowers

Uniquely spirited, charismatic and satirically passionate comedian Aidan Killian is bringing his stand-up comedy show Whistleblowers to Melbourne audiences for two nights only.

This zealously political comedian has strong, subjective views about high-profile whistleblowers and this is what his show is all about.

‘It’s mainly about Julian Assange, Edward Snowden and Chelsea Manning, and the information they released to the world and how they are being treated,’ Killian explained. ‘As you can imagine it’s quite serious. I cover rape, genocide, murder, false imprisonment … all the really hilarious subjects.’

Covering quite controversial topics, Killian suggests that comedy is the perfect setting to bring these issues to the forefront of people’s minds.

‘I think comedy is one of the last art forms where people can really speak their mind and they have the freedom to do that. The laughter gives us permission to deal with the horrors of being alive in this world, surrounded by such pain and suffering.’

Although he is aware that comedy shows like this can be quite distasteful and audiences can feel quite horrified, he suggests that by making people laugh, you can send the right message.

‘Because people are laughing, they release endorphins, they’re in a good mood, so they’re more receptive to what’s going on in the world. As long as it’s funny, people don’t leave feeling horrified.’

Killian is very ‘pro-whistleblowers’ and although some audiences may not agree with all that he is saying, he will make you challenge the way you feel and think.

‘I really believe that people like this, instead of getting punished, were treated fairly and treated like heroes, ultimately we’d all live in a much safer and happier world.’

This will be the first comedy show on this topic and it will come with passion, knowledge and truth – along with an hour of laughter.
