Spring Lamb Festival At Prahran Market

Spring has sprung with a whole lotta lamb!

I think it’s fair to say that we’ve suffered long enough through the months of cold and wet with a plethora of doughnut-induced food comas during the lingering winter period. Let’s be honest, it’s time for this to end, time to say ta-ta to winter and ta-da! to spring. With this in mind, I’m pleased to say that we can finally see the light at the end of the wintery tunnel with a festival nearing, which bears the word ‘spring’ in the title. Not just a ‘spring’ festival ladies and gents, but a spring lamb festival.

That’s right, Prahran Market will be holding their first ever Spring Lamb Festival on Saturday August 22nd! Carnivores, please refrain from drooling all over this article. Vegans, I suggest you refrain from continuing this article altogether -but don’t worry, your time will come with more Prahran Market food festivals on the cards in the coming months.

As one of Melbourne’s oldest markets, Prahran Market is known for its top quality selection of fresh produce, meat and seafood and their celebration of peak lamb season showcased by Melbourne’s best traders of lamb and producers of lamb dishes is sure to be no exception.

The festival will see local traders and butchers offering lamb souvlaki, lamb ribs, lamb parcels, slow roasted lamb, here a lamb, there a lamb, everywhere a lamb lamb, not to mention there will be a hall of lamb with tastings from local traders, butchery demonstrations and cooking demonstrations from ex-masterchef contestant Alice in Frames. Did I mention there will be lamb?

If the likes of George Colombaris’ Hellenic Republic serving up their signature souvlaki at their pop-up stall is not enough to get you salivating over this food festival, I’m sure the sticky lamb ribs from the Big Boy BBQ pop-up will.

As a perfect accompaniment to your lamb feast and solution to the oh-so-worth-it meat sweats you’re likely to give yourselves at this event, be sure to try the rosemary flavoured beer and mulled wine and cider on offer in the market square while you enjoy some live music.

The succulent, rosemary seasoned festivities are set to take place from 10am-3pm on Saturday August 22nd in and around the Prahran Market square. With live entertainment and and kids activities also on offer, this is an event for the whole family, so clear your calendar, throw on your loose fitting pants and get ready for a whole lotta lamb!
