In amongst the freezing cold winter weather and huddled up nights drinking hot chocolate and watching movies, there is a glow manifesting in the streets of Stonnington that will make you want to venture beyond your covers and bask in its warmth. Who says you can’t go out and have a good time in winter? The Glow Winter Arts Festival is living proof of the fact that you can immerse yourself in the spirit of winter, along with thousands of other fun-loving individuals.

The City of Stonnington is hosting this festival from the 13th-23rd of August, and along with the hilarious comedy acts, cinematic classics and art features; you can now glide through the middle of Prahran on their brand new sparkling ice skating rink. There is the Glow Festival Hub, which offers food and drinks to replenish your sore body after all that hardcore skating. The hub also encompasses a rotating program of live music, dance classes, projections and roving performers.

The Glow Festival is uniting the strong artistic communities of Prahran, Windsor, Toorak, South Yarra, Malvern and Armadale through their ‘Arts Burst’ program; a phenomena that will jumpstart the flow of your creative juices through its production of various creations such as the Solar Bugs (it absorbs sun rays during the day and then glows at night – super cool!), the talented Fruity Hooties (they will have your body rocking to their rhythm), the Projector Bike (they will awe you with their stories) and the Snuff Puppets (their thought-provoking cultural content will send your brain into a frenzy). This program only runs from the 14th-15th of August, so try to keep at least one of those days free so you can check out this wonderful spectacle!

Then there’s the free outdoor cinema at the Prahran Market, where there’s a different classic flick that is teamed up with a different cultural food dish every night. This runs on Friday and Saturday for two weeks (the 14th-15th of August, followed by the 21st-22nd of August). Get your laugh on at the Glow Comedy Club, with an array of Australian comedians that will render you unable to breathe from your uncontrollable laughter. Anne Edmonds, Dave Thornton, Michael Workman, Tommy Little, Michael Chamberlain and Cal Wilson will be gracing the stage from the 20th-22nd of August.

There are also Greville Street Projections that will light up the night, along with events such as John O’Hara’s ‘Dedications’, the Glow Block Party, the Celebration of Colour and more! With there being both free and ticketed events at the festival, the Glow Winters Arts Festival is truly setting Melbourne alight with their artistic and cool features, so don’t let yourself miss out on the fun!

Somewhere Else video sings of summer

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
