Sydney Dance Company Presents Frame Of Mind & Quintett

Now that winter’s almost here, it’s time to turn indoors, turn on the heater and tune into the Guinness.

Another way of keeping warm is dancing. And if you’d like some pointers on how the professionals do it, you could do worse than Frame of Mind and Quintett.

The Sydney Dance Company’s first blockbuster of the year pirouette’s into Melbourne this May with a cracking double bill from superstar choreographer William Forsythe and SDC’s Artistic Director, Rafael Bonachela.

Both pieces explore the themes of movement, light and life. Forsyth’s Quintett is widely recognised as one of his most accomplished pieces mixing intricate choreography with athletic, arresting movement.

While Bonachela’s Frame of Mind approaches the subject from an alternate viewpoint. The piece uses an original soundtrack featuring work by Bryce Dessner (guitarist from The National) in a recording by the Kronos Quartet. The result is a raw, intense performance.

Worthy themes to ponder over a crisp Melbourne evening. You can even warm up with a whisky during intermission.

Frame of Mind is playing at The Sumner, Southbank Theatre from May 6 – 16.
