The Internet Is A Cultural Object

The Internet creates an unparalleled encompassing experience. A mirage of democratic instant access to information. We crave this instant gratification: a like, a comment, a post – to prove to ourselves that what we create is valid.

A dynamic and intriguing group of artists come together to intensely explore our life because of the internet. Curated by Miriam Arbus, this exhibition brings to light both aesthetic and complex social developments that result and parallel our Internet affected lives.

“
In this exhibition, we seek to investigate conceptions of art practice, formalised aesthetics, and identity relationships with and within technology. We additionally hope to question the role of autonomy, ubiquity, and how to engage critique within this ostensible collective that is the Internet,” explains Arbus.

The exhibition begs the question, “How does our internet life alter social relations and raise questions about identity, privacy, and desire?” whilst asking us to consider “What are our (false) expectations and assumptions in regards to transparency, digital capital, accessibility, and the ownership of information.”

Constructed by thirty Melbourne Artists in unique approaches ranging from digital presentations to painting and paper sculpture, ideas will be raised where you begin to question why you even use the Internet.

Somewhere Else video sings of summer

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
