Melbourne From Above At Eureka 89

Forget seeing a therapist or being hypnotised, visiting Eureka 89 is the most effective and delicious way to get over your fear of heights. Luckily for us, Consultant Head Chef Justin Wise conquered his own fears when he joined the restaurant and he is now inviting others to enjoy the views, and some delightful food, at Eureka 89’s upcoming Melbourne From Above event as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.

Inspired by the melting pot of cultural delights that is the Melbourne food scene, Wise, formerly of The Point, has developed a menu for the occasion that celebrates the city’s vast culinary repertoire. Whizzing you around the globe with 3 to 4 dishes from each of the featured precincts, from Little Italy on Lygon Street in Carlton to Little Vietnam on Victoria Street in Richmond, each dish makes us want to spend more time exploring the vibrant suburbs and less time settling for fish and chips from up the street. Wise expects the thrilling location to top off the sensory experience, promising to “guide patrons through the flavours of Melbourne’s beloved internationally-inspired food hubs whilst they feast their eyes on the city through floor to ceiling windows.”

Tearing your attention away from the food may be difficult, but the 360° views that extend as far as the eye can see put up stiff competition. With a mostly sleek black interior splashed with just enough red, Eureka 89 creates the perfect backdrop to make darn sure the breathtaking Melbourne city skyline is the piece de résistance. This is a rare opportunity to gaze at the muse that inspired your dinner and if you look closely enough, you may even be able to pinpoint the exact district that is represented on the plate in front of you.

Any nerves you may have had about dining at the highest public vantage point in the Southern Hemisphere will disappear as soon as you take your first bite of the food at Melbourne From Above. The experience takes the concept of dinner and a show to a whole new level, and fosters an appreciation of the beauty of Melbourne that could not be achieved with your feet firmly on the ground.

Somewhere Else video sings of summer

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
