The Way Thriller Live Makes Me Feel

Calling all Michael Jackson fans! Thriller Live is now playing at the Arts Centre Melbourne in the State Theatre. Thriller Live is a colourful celebration of Michael Jackson’s music, performed with passion and energy by an engaging cast of singers and dancers.

Thriller Live showcases Michael Jackson’s hits from the Jackson 5 years, to the funky and fun disco era and right through to the early nineties with a mix of iconic classics as well as a couple of songs for the delight of die-hard fans.

Female lead vocalist Prinnie Stevens brings depth to an otherwise male vocal lineup with her flawless and powerful voice, but disappoints with her dancing skills which lacked the energy and conviction met by the rest of the cast. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure being able to sing and dance at the same time is a mean feat,  but when all but one can pull it off, it’s easy to be critical.

The male vocalists absolutely deliver, with each bringing an individual flair that reflects certain elements of Michael’s legendary performance style, while allowing their own personality and talent to shine through. The show is fun and loveable because it is mostly a celebration of Michael Jackson’s music rather than an imitation of the man himself.

However, the performer who features sporadically throughout the show as Michael is 100% on point. Where ‘Billie Jean’ could almost have been considered a filler in preparation for ‘Thriller’, it is in fact a highlight of the show with the male lead nailing the dance moves necessary to pull off this track, and don’t even get me started on his performance of ‘Smooth Criminal’!

Overall, Thriller Live is a fun, funky and family friendly show where the performers engage the audience with their captivating showcase of Michael Jackson’s diverse musical catalog that will make you want to sing and dance the whole way home.
