Melbourne’s summer of fun continues with the return of Fashion on Film, presented as part of the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival Cultural Program Project series.

Screening at ACMI in Federation Square from Saturday the 21st of February to Sunday the 3rd of March, audiences will be given extraordinary access into the fashion world as they explore the iconic decade that was the 1990s.

This year’s season boasts several Australian premiere films such as Fashion in the 1990s (La mode des années 90). Directed by Loïc Prigent, this film pays a tribute to a decade of contrasting fashions, from Helmut Lang’s minimalism to the excess of Jean Paul Gaultier and Karl Lagerfeld.

The Balmain Style, also directed by Loïc Prigent, chronicles the history of the legendary fashion house, founded by Pierre Balmain after WWII.

Pop Models (Les Mannequins, corps de la mode) is a documentary from director Olivier Nicklaus about the transformation of the fashion model, from the liberation of Paris after WWII all the way to the supermodels of the 21st Century. Fascinating interviews with such icons like Twiggy, Cindy Crawford and Jerry Hall make for some fantastic viewing.

And Then There’s Naples (E poi c’è Napoli), directed by Gianluca Migliarotti, explores the epicentre of men’s tailoring. Traveling through the ancient city of style, local designers and commentators offer unique insight into the art of tailoring.

To complement the first screening of And Then There’s Naples, ACMI Film Programmer, James Nolen will host Sartorial Saturday, a two-hour guided walking tour of Melbourne that uncovers the many exquisite products featured in the documentary. A short film by Noel Smyth, titled POP (4 mins) accompanies each screening of And Then There’s Naples. POP is a finalist in the VAMFF Film 2015 competition and showcases the latest Melbourne made menswear collection from Article by Courtney Holm.

From the stylish streets of Naples to some of the most celebrated fashion houses in Paris, Fashion of Film 2015 is sure to have something for everyone.
