Barbe-Cubed

To kick off The Age’s Good Food Month for November, this Saturday Southbank will be abuzz with passionate barbequers from around the world battling for the title of the ‘Ultimate BBQ Nation’. A very prestigious honour indeed.
BBQ has come a long way from the humble backyard hot plate, which produced many a burnt pig in a blanket or bone dry lamb chops. The sheer number of American style BBQ restaurants that have popped up around Melbourne in the past few years only furthers the idea that BBQ is now a lucrative business and quickly becoming the latest Melbourne foodie obsession.
Running all day from 11 am, BBQ aficionados from gourmands to Weber rookies are encouraged to attend ‘BBQ3’ in City Rd.’s Testing Grounds to witness some of the world’s best grillers in action. Visiting Melbourne from countries as far as Korea and Jamaica, your palette will take a world tour for less than the price of a daily Myki fare. Entry is free with meals starting from only $10- you’d be hard pressed to find better bang for your buck!
So wear your comfiest elasticated waist pants and grab some mates, it’s the ideal way to start your long weekend festivities (unless you have a dress to fit in come Cup Day!)

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
