COTW: St Germain Des Prés

“Vie trop courte pour manger mauvais fromag” – Life is too short to eat bad cheese.

The French appreciate the fine things in life, and hell, we really do too.

To celebrate Bastille day this Sunday, Mr Wow’s Emporium are going all Francophile, with plenty of wine, cheese, french cocktails and petanque.

The cocktail of the week, the St Germain Des Prés, commemorates this day of celebration and is made with tasty elderflower liqueur.

Created by Nicolas De Soto, the head bartender from the Experimental Cocktail Group based in Paris, this tasty libation, which packs a hidden punch, has quickly become a modern classic and is served up in bars around the world.

The Melbourne Fire Brigade will be represented and as well as coin donations on the night, $2 dollars from every cocktail sold will be donated to raise money for the Firefighters Charity Fund Melbourne.

Ingredients
40ml ounces Beefeater Gin
20ml ounces St. Germain elderflower liqueur
20ml ounces lime juice
big dash simple syrup
1 egg white
slice of cucumber (without skin)
2 dash chilli tincture

Muddle the cucumber, then add the remaining ingredients and dry shake (without ice) for 10-15 seconds. Add the ice and shake vigorously, then double strain (using a hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer) into a coupe glass. Garnish with a slice of cucumber.
