Amidst the flurry of frocks at the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival, author and stylist, Nadia Barbaro will launch her new book, Vintage Girls.

The limited edition print (and eBook) boasts a collection of stories and advice from notable women in vintage gowns, including the likes of songstresses, Kimbra and Sarah Blasko. It will be available through Readings, (both in-store and online), and the eBook, through the iTunes bookstore.

Barbaro has always had a passion for yesteryear’s fashion. “I have amazing hand-me-downs from my grandmother – I love the stories – it belonged to someone else and you get to carry that on.”

A fan of mixing-and-matching vintage with modern garb, Barbaro casts off the mothballs, throwing classic pieces into the contemporary closets of today’s women.

“There’s a lot of books that have photos from other periods and the history of different items,” she says, “but they don’t show it in a new way – a modern way, on modern girls.”

A selection of dresses from the book will also be on display during the festival at InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto, accompanying its launch on March 18.
