Galloping into the frontier on a CGI horse next week the Pause Festival will showcase some of the finest in digital ideas and art at Federation Square and the Australian Centre for Moving Image (ACMI).

Here’s our Pause Fest picks.

Downloaded

Downloaded is a documentary written and directed by Alex Winter, who’s best known for playing Bill S. Preston Esq. in the 90s film franchise, Bill & Ted.

Winter’s documentary focuses on Napster creator, Shawn Fanning and how his online music sharing software transformed the music industry.

Catch Downloaded at ACMI on Friday 14 from 8pm.

Zero Latency’s Inversion Project

Melbourne gaming start-up, Zero Latency, will be unveiling their virtual reality gaming technology, Inversion Project at Pause.  It’s the first in a run of planned pop-up zombie-shooting virtual reality events.

The aim of the Inversion Project’s wearable gadgetry is to fully immerse the player, as the controller, in what can only be awkwardly described as a virtual space within a real space.

Check out the latest demo if that’s difficult to grasp, or try it in person on the Sunday.

Free Stuff

If you don’t have a ticket to the main event, there’s plebeian entertainment at Fed Square.

There’s interactive art installations, including small glowing-pyramid connect-a-thon, “Constellactions”, shipped from Poland by interdisciplinary media/design group, panGenerator.

The Incredibly Short Film Festival kicks off on Thursday night (13 Feb). It features short loops of animated GIF image formats from around the world.

Electronic artists such as HAHA Industries/Dean DixonDropframe and Sons et Al will also perform live.

Pause Festival runs from 13 – 16 February at Federation Square and ACMI Tickets and full program at www.pausefest.com.au
